Social Spaces is a new project, still in development, that emerged from RSA Networks. I am working closely with Professor David Gauntlett (University of Westminster) on progressing these ideas to a stage where we plan to feed back to an existing group of enthusiastic co-designers and engage in a much larger collaborative initiative.

Social Spaces currently is:

A Catalyst for Releasing Capacity and for promoting new thinking about social capital and positive community action.

A Stimulation Programme to be developed and delivered including workshops, mentoring and practical planning tools that encourages collaboration and action. The programme will focus initially on community building methods, including participation formats, social media, action research methods and network weaving.

A Volunteer Framework to be designed and developed that supports inclusive community volunteering.

A Research Project aimed at understanding the underlying mechanisms for initiation and participation in communities; and developing the stimulation programme.

A Community of Practice where experiences are shared and a body of knowledge on citizen participation developed.
